Samsung to Expand GSM Phone Production Capacity in Tianjin

Tianjin Samsung Telecom Technology, Korea-based Samsung's subsidiary in Tianjin, recently obtained the official approval from China's NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) to expand its GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) mobile phone production capacity.

Tianjin Samsung announced that the company will make an investment of 800 million RMB (US$106.5 million; US$1=7.5 RMB) in raising its annual output of GSM mobile phones to 78 million units at its Tianjin plant. At present, Tianjin Samsung is able to produce 41.7 million GSM mobile phones per year, according to Xinhua News.
